TOM FEENEY MAKING PRO-CURTIS ROBOCALLS?

Ridiculous, you say? It's apparently true, as numerous calls and complaints have begun to come into our office about it, and The Orlando Sentinel just called looking for a comment from Clint Curtis.

This from Clint yesterday:
He did this last time too. In the robocall strategy, they are only effective if they go to answering machines between the hours of 10am and 2pm. He always runs them at night and leaves in live calls during dinner hour. Robocalls run at dinner time actually hurt rather than help. Last year I received about 500 complaints from people who were bothered by the robocalls and did not realize that they were being sent by Feeney instead of me. He must have just started the calls because I haven't started receiving the angry calls and e-mails yet. (Note: that began today.)

Last time he also sent out a flyer that looked like it came from me in the areas I was strongest, acting like the primary was already over. That reduced the primary voting numbers by 10%. The strategy is fairly common.

All the polling shows that Feeney would beat Kosmas by over 20 points, so I doubt he has any problem running against her. He definitely would prefer a race against her. He knows that in a rematch between us with the great increase in funds, he will have trouble surviving the election.

He is trying the old endorsement by the devil gives you the other
candidate, that's all I can think.
We've heard from people in the Feeney camp that Feeney would much prefer to run against Kosmas than Curtis, but one has to wonder about that. Since Feeney, ahem, "defeated" Curtis in 2006, one would assume that he'd figure he can do it again -- and also that he'd prefer to go up against Curtis than Kosmas, who has raised over $1.2 million so far and can blitz the district with advertising. The truth is, we can only speculate on why Feeney's doing what he's doing.

An audio recording of the robocall (with legally required Feeney attribution at the end!) can be heard on Brad Blog HERE.

From Wikipedia: Robocall is American pejorative jargon for an automated telemarketing phone call which uses both a computerized autodialer and a computer-delivered recorded message. The implication is that a "robocall" resembles a telephone call from a robot.

Brother, sounds like everyone is running scared of Clint Curtis--Kosmas, Feeney, adn the DCCC. And with good reason. God forbid a real reformer actually gets into office and shines a light on all the scandals, lies, scams and payola which constitute politics as usual for both parties. Please contribute today!

so clint's logic being employed here is that mr. feeney is making these calls to potential curtis supporters in order to ensure kosmas wins the primary because she is an easier target? wouldnt feeney be calling on kosmas's behalf to ensure he would face her? thats the application of your logical if you dare to apply it!

have any of you people taken a Political Science course?? the argument makes no sense!

this blog damages any and all the marginal credibility that that Mr. Curtis has.

And i doubt you'll post this, but i know Admin. is reading this...

Truth is, we don't know why Feeney is making the calls. One would assume it's because he prefers to run against curtis, whom hge likely would view as weaker than Kosmas just based on money. But the inside dope from the Feeney camp is just the opposite. perhaps Feeney hopes to irritate Curtis supporters and flip a few votes that way. Who knows?

how about the logic of the party could not oomplete their calls for Kosmas - so Feeney is stepping in and doing it for them? Feeney wants to run against Kosmas and not Clint. Kosmas has no name recognition in the district outside of her old state district and is 20 points behind Feeney in the polls right now. As or taking any political science course - text books won't teach you what you need to win - just ask the Kosmas "political science" graduates working on her staff.

Getting either candidates name out before the public is just stupid. Even if you do it in a negative fashion you are contributing to name recognition which may have not been there before.
A word of caution to the producers of the robo calls...the last guys who did this work for Feeney ended up murdered.

About this poll that shows Kosmas running 20 points behind Feeney. It was taken in late 2007 and its findings were:

"The results of our survey among likely general election voters in Florida’s 24th Congressional District reveal that Congressman Tom Feeney approaches the 2008 campaign as a severely wounded incumbent These factors make Feeney extremely vulnerable to a moderate Democratic challenger
with a compelling story such as Suzanne Kosmas."

what is her "compelling story"?? She's a rich gramma.

Kosmas is running 20 points behind right now - not in 2007. The poll is dated 8/11/08 and can be found at: http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/congress/florida.html

Check it out for yourself - don't take my word for it.

That is incorrect. The site was UPDATED 8/11, but the poll was taken 7/9-11/07. Says right on it. Pollster: Garin Hart Yang Research Group for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and EMILY's List (D)
24th Congressional District General Election.

Note that the same site's latest poll shows Obama trouncing McCain. But the neocons are fudging the numbers and commissioning their own polls, and are spreading disinformation about the accuracy of exit polls in order to once again facilitate Coup '08. Latest casualty--the AP Washington Bureau, which is now churning out pro-McCain tripe that wouldn't pass muster in a first-year journalism class.

Obama better have his own damn hackers or else he's toast, and so is the USA. Not sure the planet can survive four more years of Neocon rule. Seriously.

I checked out that site and here's my cut and paste from it.

"Pollster: Garin Hart Yang Research Group for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and EMILY's List (D)
24th Congressional District General Election
7/9-11/07
N=406 Tom Feeney (R) Incumbent 42
Suzanne Kosmas (D) 23"

This is the the poll that was taken in 2007 and there hasn't been a new one since then.

Here's the link to the poll
